Little Bear's Little Boat
Little Bear loves his little boat. He rows it around Huckleberry Lake every day, fishing and dreaming. But then Little Bear begins to grow and grow, until one day he doesn't fit in his little boat anymore. What will he do now? Luckily, his mom helps him see that it's his destiny to become a big bear...and it's time to pass the little boat on to another deserving little bear. An adorable book to share with children 2 to 5.

The Cat Who Liked Potato Soup
Oh, what a priceless tale! With down-home language that’s a joy to read aloud, Terry Farish tells a wry, unconventional and touching love story about an unlikely pair of curmudgeons (an old man and his cat) - brought to life in glowing illustrations by Barry Root. Perfect for ages 6 and up.

Me and Rupert Goody
This book is SO wonderful...just a perfect slice of life set in a small town in the Great Smoky Mountains. Filled with lessons about the importance of tolerance, patience and belonging, this is a story of a life-altering experience and the ability of the characters to change and grow from it. With incredibly well-drawn characters and a Smoky Mountain feel, this is one OUTSTANDING story. An American Library Association Notable Children's Book and a School Library Journal Best Book of the Year...perfect for ages 11 and up.
Reading Tip From Hedgie
One way of inspiring children to read is to have a 'Favorite Book Talk.' In my classroom, our annual Favorite Book Talk is a major event, and is a wonderful way to prepare children for the pleasures of summer reading. Students (and teacher) bring into class at least five of their favorite children's books, and then proceed to explain why these titles are worthy of "favorite" status. This is a terrific public speaking experience, and a superb means for students to hear about new books!

The Dante Club Boston, 1865. A series of murders, all of them inspired by scenes in Dante's Inferno. Only an elite group of America's first Dante scholars, led by Oliver Wendell Holmes and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, can solve the mystery.

A Note to Teachers: We know you don't have much time, but if you get the inclination, we now welcome teacher reviews for all of our books. If Hedgie hasn't done a review, a teacher review will be selected at random to be the main review. Put in your two cents about what students should read! Just go to the book you want to review and Add A Teacher's Review (Note, you don't have to fill out the entire form - pick the sections that are right for your review).
Thinking of sending books as gifts? On our checkout form, we've added the option to include a short message to the recipient of the books.
