A Series of Unfortunate Events This series chronicles the unhappy tales of the three Baudelaire siblings who lead lives filled with misery and woe. In spite of the tongue-in-cheek warnings by the author Lemony Snicket, these are fun stories that entertain and empower children.

Many people think picture books are only for younger children, however nothing could be further from the truth. Many pictures books have themes for older children, such as The Raft by Jim Lamarche which explores the theme of the appreciation of the world around us. If you see your older children reading picture books, don't discourage them, look at it as an opportunity to dive into a new topic.
