Recommended this month (for little ones)
Sheila Rae's Peppermint Stick This short story does a marvelous job of depicting the relationship between siblings that so often falls somewhere between love and torment. The illustrations are simple and charming, and the last page says it all though with the two embracing. Sibling rivalry has never been sweeter than in SHEILA RAE’S PEPPERMINT STICK.
Recommended this month (for early readers)
Scared Silly A collection of poems, stories, jokes, and riddles designed to help young readers scale their fears down to size by inviting them to laugh out loud at the things that make them scared silly.
Recommended this month (for fluent readers)
The Sands of Time has the great balance of good and evil. It struggles to right past wrongs. It is filled from cover to cover with mystery, adventure, humor and beauty. Ultimately, however, THE SANDS OF TIME tackles something far greater: Hermux must decide that discovering the truth about his civilization's past, no matter how awful, is far more important than maintaining the comfortable lies he has known all of his life. This is a profound book. Grab yourself a copy!
Book Series of the Month
A Series of Unfortunate Events This series chronicles the unhappy tales of the three Baudelaire siblings who lead lives filled with misery and woe. In spite of the tongue-in-cheek warnings by the author Lemony Snicket, these are fun stories that entertain and empower children.
Our Special Feature this month...
Our featured author this month is Sharon Creech whose latest release, Love that Dog, has received wide-acclaim from teachers and professionals alike. Check out all her books.
Reading Tip from Hedgie:
Many people think picture books are only for younger children, however nothing could be further from the truth. Many pictures books have themes for older children, such as The Raft by Jim Lamarche which explores the theme of the appreciation of the world around us. If you see your older children reading picture books, don't discourage them, look at it as an opportunity to dive into a new topic.

Books for me too???
Research has proven how important it is to model reading to children. Now
at Hedgehog Books we're making that even easier. When you check out, just
click on "Yes, Show me the Grownup Books". You can also get there through links at the bottom of our home page or by clicking here. As much as we love children's books, we know there's nothing like curling up with a good book of our very own!
