"I want my mommy!" Three baby owls awake one night to find their mother gone, and they can’t help but wonder where she is. What is she doing? When will she be back? What scary things move all around them? This book offers the gentle promise needed by every young child that Mommy will always come home. An adorable fluffy white baby owl is included in this set! Perfect for ages 1 to 4.

I'm Gonna Like Me!
Let's face it...when things are going well, it's easy to feel good about yourself. But when life gets a bit more challenging, it's harder to keep your chin up. With alternating points of view a girl's and a boy's, Jamie Lee Curtis's triumphant text and Laura Cornell's lively (and funny!) artwork show kids that the key to feeling good is liking yourself because you are you...even if you're having a stinker of a day! A great esteem-builder for ages 4 to 8.

Hero Dogs
Award-winning journalist and nonfiction author Donna M. Jackson takes an in-depth look at extraordinary canines and the role they play in the daily lives of humans. This fluent-reader picture book features real stories from the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Along with historical and scientific facts and dramatic photographs, this book explores some incredibly heroic and heartwarming moments that will fascinate readers of all ages.
Reading Tip From Hedgie
The benefits of reading aloud are NOT just for little children. Reading aloud is a key component of the education of upper elementary students as well as middle schoolers. Studies show that reading aloud to older children sparks a love of reading, improves listening, reading and writing skills, and raises test scores. In addition, this is a good way to keep the communication lines open with your adolescents - read a book or story about a social issue and discuss it. This will enable you to openly exchange ideas without a confrontation...so grab a book and start reading!

Great Books for Me Too?
Research has proven how important it is
to model reading to children. At Hedgehog Books we've made that even easier. Check out our

Ghost Riders If you enjoy learning about the lives of people in Appalachia, you should read Sharon McCrumb's novels. While this one includes some of the characters from her previous books, it is really a combination historical novel and dual biographies. McCrumb selects two famous characters from the War Between the States: Zebulon Vance, a popular political figure, and Belinda Blalock, a woman who went to war with her husband, and reveals how the Civil War split the mountain communities and the country. While McCrumb attempts to tie events of the past to the present with Ghost Riders, I found this to be only a distraction from a strong historical novel. Nonetheless, it is a great read!

A Note to Teachers: We know you don't have much time, but if you get the inclination, we now welcome teacher reviews for all of our books. If Hedgie hasn't done a review, a teacher review will be selected at random to be the main review. Put in your two cents about what students should read! Just go to the book you want to review and Add A Teacher's Review (Note, you don't have to fill out the entire form - pick the sections that are right for your review).
Thinking of sending books as gifts? On our checkout form, we've added the option to include a short message to the recipient of the books.
